In this post, I’ll share 20 blogs and news sites that aren’t really directed specifically to freelancers or a freelancing field, but that contain information that freelancers will find helpful.

Non-Freelancing Blogs to Follow

Freelancers need to know about more than just their field. They need to know a lot about what’s going on in the marketplace, tech, social media, and many other topics as well.

Here are 20 websites filled with up-to-date information (in alphabetical order) to help you stay on top of what’s happening:

1. B2C|Business 2 Community. This is a great multi-author community blog that discusses business marketing tips. Naturally, there’s a lot of information here that freelancers will find helpful.
2. Business Insider. This site will keep you up to date with what’s happening in the business world. You’ll find tech news, finance news, and even political news and entertainment news.
3. Business Pundit. This blog covers a wide variety of topics, many of which you won’t find elsewhere. There’s definitely some small business information for freelancers here.
4. Daily Conversions. Did you ever wonder why you’re not closing deals or whether your website is effective? This is the place to go to find tips on how to close deals and make more money.
5. The Daily Egg. I started following this blog when a colleague shared it on social media. So far, I’ve found lots of relevant information.
6. Fast Company. This is a good place to find out what some of the more creative businesses are doing, mixed with unusual tidbits that make for good conversation.
7. Forbes. I admit that I used to think this site was mainly for Fortune 500 types, but there’s actually quite a bit here for the small business owner. I find myself here several times a week.
8. Get Rich Slowly. Freelancers need to know how to handle their finances. Here’s a blog that will not only help you manage your money, but provide advice for getting ahead.
9. HubSpot. The HubSpot blog is well known for providing high quality information on a variety of marketing and business topics.
10. Inc.. Do you need to get a business mindset? You’ll find plenty of information here for start-ups, business owners, and managers.
11. Kikolani. One of the easiest marketing tools for freelancers to use is a blog on their own website. This blog helps you understand how to do it.
12. LifeHacker. This blog is a personal favorite. Over the years, I’ve found it to be a good source of timesavers, productivity hacks, and other ways to make my life easier.
13. Marc and Angel Hack Life . You can’t be productive if you’re feeling down. This blog addresses your relationships and attitudes.
14. Mashable. This is probably the premier news site for the social media world. If you want to find out what social media tools you’ll be using in the near future, check here.
15. Search Engine Journal. Like it or not, search engines affect many freelancing businesses. Find out what’s happening with the search engines on this blog.
16. The Simple Dollar. Make your freelance earnings go further than you ever thought they could with the money-saving tips on this helpful blog.
17. Social Media Examiner. This blog focuses on the “how-to” of social media. You’ll find lots of practical social media tips.
18. TechCrunch. This is must-read if you want to keep up with technology. Read about the newest software and online products.
19. Wired. I like this one so much I actually get the magazine at home, but the website is just as informative and fun to read.
20. WiseBread . This is a multi-author site that is mainly full of tips for saving money or saving time. They also have daily deals.

Since some of the sites publish more than once a day, you may want to scan the headlines to find just the topics that are of interest to you.
